Priced by the pound. A white firing highly plastic English kaolin with good translucency characteristics.
Kaolin is a primary clay and is formed by the weathering and decomposing, on site, of feldspar. Compared to sedimentary clays the particles of kaolin are course and therefore relatively non-plastic. They are also generally free of contaminates such as iron. It is a main ingredient in porcelain and white stonewares.
Kaolin is processed in two distinct methods. Some is Hydraulically mined using high pressure water and the clay is allowed to flow into ponds where the course particles settle out and the fine particles are then separated and dried for use. Another method involves grinding the kaolin in a mill and separating the fines and courses by either screening or air floating.
