Virginia Cartwright shares her unique techniques of making folded hand built functional
pieces. She adds delicate marbleized patterns of colored clay to her slabs before
she forms her work. Step by step instructions are given on how to make loaves
of colored clay, and how to apply thin slices of the pattern loaf to heavier slabs
of clay. Virginia demonstrates her basic five sided folded form. This shape can
be used for a variety of containers such as teapots, and covered jars.
Virginia's work has been featured in many books and magazines and is included
in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. and the Los
Angeles County Museum of Art. Her work has been included in over sixty exhibitions
and she is well known for the numerous workshops she has given in the United States
and abroad. |
