Collaring is the technique of shaping pottery in such a way as to completely close the opening of the pot. The second project is a bowl. Engesath teaches that there are only two basic forms one can create on the wheel: open and closed, and he uses the example of the bowl to demonstrate the subtle differences in technique required to simplify the throwing of the open shape. Several examples are shown.
