This book is dedicated to helping potters identify quickly the nature, causes
and remedies for the multitude of diffculties that can arise during production
processes. However, the book is much more than this—its detailed explanations
also provide an excellent account of the technology involved in ceramics production
and firing processes. Comprehensive and easy to use, it has already proved itself
to be an enormously helpful source of reference for craft potters, teachers and
students of ceramics, and those working in the ceramic industry.
Harry Fraser has organised the book into four simple sections: faults arising
in clay and biscuit ware; from slipcasting processes; in glazing and glazed ware;
and problems appearing after decoration. This second edition include a new chapter
on ceramic test methods and an expanded chapter on health and safety, including
procedures on how to avoid problems.
This new edition has been fully redesigned with colour illustrations and the text
has been revised, updated and expanded to reflect new developments. While many
other books have small sections covering this material, this book is the only
one entirely dedicated to the subject of identifying faults and offering solutions. |
