Castable Ceramic for Glass

Castable Ceramic for Glass is mold-making material for glass slumping, glass fusing, and glass casting. This exclusive Fusing Farm Product will set up in a fraction of the time compared to traditional slip cast methods. (Under 1 and 1/2 hours). This durable product can with stand repeated firings (below 1700°F) when handled with care and treated with Fusing Farm Ultra Primer. Easy to mix and easy to use, this is the only product you need to create long lasting custom molds for glass.

Application Methods

Before Mixing: Make sure you are on a level surface. Check that the sides of the mold are secure and sealed. Use a parting agent, such as Mold Soap (IP-6046) or Purelube (IP-240).

Add 2 parts dry to 1 part water, by volume. When mixing by weight, water should be 50% of dry weight. Exceeding 60% can affect the long-term durability of the finished mold.

Blend for 2 to 3 minutes, with a power mixer (such as Jiffy Mixer, Glaze Mixer, Plunge Mixer). Proper blending is necessary to assure saturation of dry ingredients and dispersion of ceramic materials within the mixture. Pour into prepared mold, and allow it to sit for 60 to 90 minutes before de-molding. If surface is still hot; it is still setting. Temperature can effect setting time (cold=slow, warm=workable, hot=fast). For best results and better long term durability, after de-molding let the casting air dry for a couple of days prior to firing.

Using kiln wash prior to adding glass to the mold will improve the durability and longevity of the finished cast-mold.

Sample Firing Schedule for Force Curing and Finishing Cast Mold
Force-cure can be done by placing mold in ventilated kiln or oven at 275°F for 4 or more hours (depending on size, thickness, and dryness of piece). Test for remaining moisture content by placing a piece of glass or mirror over the opening on the kiln or oven. If the glass fogs up, then increase your cure time until glass no longer fogs.
