BaCO 3
This is the main source of barium oxide in glazes where it functions as a flux and assists in producing matte finishes. It is also used to neutralize sulfates in clay bodies.
Melting Point 1360°C
We recommend German Barium carbonate for use with clay bodies, as it combines with the naturally occurring soluble Sulfates creating Barium Sulfate, an insoluble, eliminating scumming problems. When used in Slip casting bodies, it combines with and neutralizes the sulfates that inhibit good deflocculation.
Either German or Chinese Barium carbonate can be used in glazes with excellent results. Barium Matts can especially be nice in copper blue and iron yellow.
**Note: For large or heavy orders that weigh 150 lbs. we will advise you of the approximate freight cost. You will not be charged until we verify shipping costs with you.** |
